Klaus Kolb owner/builder of Geodesic dome kits by American Ingenuity inc.
In 1999, I purchased a 40’ dome home, a 27’ two car garage dome, a dome link, a 34’ screen porch dome, a utility dome, and a dog house dome from American Ingenuity.
- November 1999: ground braking
- December 1999: concrete slab pouring

During the following two years I built 85 percent of the domes myself as a General Contractor. The only items I sub contracted for time reasons were slab pouring, septic system installation, hanging and finishing sheetrock and plumbing.
- April 2002: issuance of Certificate of Occupancy.
This hands-on work provided me with a wealth of knowledge and experience in proper dome construction.
Klaus Kolbs Background
I grew up in Goerlitz, a town near Dresden ,Germany. At the college "Fachschule fuer Kraft-und Arbeitsmaschinen" in Meissen I studied Mechanical Engeneering and I fled from the former East Germany just prior to the construction of the infamous "Berlin Wall"
An international textile machinery corporation gave me the opportunity to travel the world as a machinery erector, inspector and sales engineer. This occupation enabled me to gain valuable experience in technical matters, communication and management and provided me with exposure to different cultures and customs. I worked in many places around the globe, including Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Phillippines, Hong Kong, Pakistan, the former USSR, Egypt, Persia, Czechoslowakia, Hungary, Poland, Austria, France, Holland, Belgium Northern Ireland, Great Britain, USA and Mexico.
In 1965, I set up Sales, Service and Manufacturing as president for Bruckner Machinery Corp. in Spartanburg, SC. After continually increasing annual textile machinery exports, all the while creating 170 manufacturing jobs, the company was awarded the "Presidential E-Award" for excellence in exports.
In 1979, I became CEO of ADO USA in Spartanburg, SC. ADO is a German owned internationally based textile manufacturing company for specialty drapery fabrics. Over the subsequent 18 years we built the fledgling American arm of ADO International to a facility employing more than 160 workers in research and development, sales, administration and manufacturing.
In 1997 I retired from the corporate business sector. After putting 30 acres of pristine South Carolina woodlands into a land conservancy trust, I built the home of my dreams.
For 3 years I have enjoyed life in an ultra modern, highly energy efficient and safe thin shell reinforced concrete, foam insulated geodesic dome.
